The Story of Umā
Umā grew from a love for making things by hand.
Over the years, sewing and natural dyeing became two practices that naturally came together. What started as a curiosity for working with plants and textiles slowly became a way of creating clothing that feels connected to the environment and to the hands that made it.
Today, each Umā piece is sewn and dyed by Ana, between the jungles of Sayulita and the cloud forests of Xalapa, Mexico.
Umā is a collection of clothing made slowly, with care and curiosity. A way of creating with nature while remembering that we are part of it too — made from the same elements, shaped by the same world, and always connected to it.
The Art of Natural Dyeing
Our colors come from the earth. Using plants, leaves, roots, flowers, and natural materials. No two pieces are ever exactly alike.
Natural dyeing is a practice that asks us to be patient and present. The process takes time, allowing nature to guide the outcome and creating garments that reflect the beauty of imperfection.
