FAQs

Umā garments are made in Mexico from plant made fibers such as cotton, modal, rayon, and bamboo. Each piece is dyed using plants and materials including indigo, marigold, eucalyptus, teak, almond leaves, logwood, avocado pits and skins, and red onion skins. Every garment is sewn and hand-dyed in small batches, with each step done by hand, from preparing the dyes and sewing to finishing each piece

Every Umā piece is unique in size, color, and character. Most garments are made with fabrics that offer some stretch, allowing for comfort and ease of movement. Please refer to the actual garment measurements provided for each piece rather than relying only on the size label. If you’re between sizes, we recommend comparing these measurements with a garment you already own that has a similar fit and style. If you have any questions about sizing or fit, feel free to contact us. We’re happy to help you find the best fit.

Our garments are naturally dyed by hand, so a little extra care helps preserve their color and character over time. We recommend gently hand washing your garment in cold water with a pH-neutral or mild soap. Avoid chlorine, acidic products, and harsh chemicals, also ingredients such as vinegar, lime juice, and lemon juice can react with natural dyes and change their color. After washing, hang your garment to dry in the shade. When storing, keep it somewhere cool and dry, away from direct sunlight and excess humidity.

Each Umā piece is handmade and carefully inspected before it makes its way to you. Because our garments are made by hand and often naturally or individually dyed, slight variations in color, texture, and finish are part of what makes each piece unique.
